Our mothers often were the silent link between our wants and our needs ensuring that the seemingly little bit extra that we desired to help balance our lives was available. It would seem that for them, it was important that their daughters (and sons) acquired skills and education to provide the platform for us to blossom. That’s why you’d see a family where at the point when the father/provider had reached his limit (for whatever reasons) the mother opens up her ‘kolo’/ ‘oworo’ or loosens the edge of her wrapper or even reached inside her bra and brings magically springs forth cash which might or might not be enough for the task at hand, but would serve as the foundation for further funding. These women were limited by society and in effect by their education/exposure but strived to attain higher for themselves and their kids.

I think we need to applaud ourselves; we are much more business savvy and much stronger than our predecessors, we’ve taken the lemons life threw at us and made lemonade(s) consistently. The average modern woman has multiple sources of income, she has tried her hands at different things at different times (sometimes even at the same time), she continuously stretches herself to reach for the stars. All these are laudable qualities that no one can take from us. Society remains almost as rigid in its views but that doesn’t seem to stop us; we have learnt (and indeed are still learning) to apply wisdom and tact in our dealings whilst forging ahead in spite of the insecurities around us. We evolve, we are evolving and we are consciously teaching our female children that it is okay to dream, it is okay to reach for the stars, it is okay to take steps towards achieving those dreams and most importantly, it is okay to enjoy fulfillment upon achievement of those dreams!

At the start of this journey, the sheer number of women who indicated their readiness to take their planning and wealth creation to another level was astounding! We’ve come from a place where we sat in the back seat quietly, most times without the zeal for more and sometimes with the thoughts of more, of what could have been; to a place of positive reinforcements and action, we’ve come to a place of not just action, but of dreams whilst still sitting (most times) in the back seat. Now it’s time to take it to the next level – fulfillment of dreams. Take for example, a young mother of 3 who makes clothes for a living, launches a fashion line, includes hair (weaves) and make up in the portfolio, then on the side adds a line for fashion accessories. She takes all of the income from these ventures and dreams of the future with her beautiful kids, however the steps towards fulfillment of these dreams is the next thing on her mind.

Adashe Consulting was created with the modern woman in mind. Together, we can begin this journey toward the fulfillment of these dreams to ensure that all your hard work isn’t for nothing. We take little positive steps daily till we get to that point where we can indeed begin to fly! A point where we know that our kids have turned out right and started their own journey, where we’re now left to enjoy the dreams that were woven in yesterday years. Together we explore and harness the opportunities in our times and use them to our advantage making the most of these opportunities building sustainable wealth that transcends the dictates of a male dominated world.

…deliberately wealthy

Before now, most of our mothers were industrious to the extent that their exposure and society allowed them to be.
